At an altitude above 3000 meters on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, there is an insect called the bat moth.

It flies and flies, and in the summer, it lays many eggs underground.
Then, in about a month, the eggs grow into many larvae.
The larvae then burrow into moist, loose soil, absorb nutrients from plant roots and stems, gradually making their bodies white and plump.
They keep crawling in the soil, crawling and crawling.
Until one day, this 'fool' is infected by a soil fungus called cordyceps. Its cordyceps fungal spores parasitize the body of the bat moth larvae.
It still crawls resiliently, striving to climb upward, while the spores grow inside the larvae, and the larvae's internal organs gradually disappear until winter, dying head up, tail down. At this time, the insect body becomes a shell filled with mycelium, buried in the soil layer. This is the 'winter worm.'
After a winter, by the following spring and summer, the mycelium begins to grow again, sprouting a small purplish-red grass from the mouth or head of the dead larva, 2-5 cm tall, with a pineapple-shaped capsule at the tip; this is the 'summer grass.'
Thus, the larval body and the sprouted grass together form a complete 'cordyceps.'
