This anonymous Kowloon cordyceps gift appraisal evaluated the contents of a presentation box rather than its birthday story. Yellow-brown full bodies, clear rings, eight leg pairs, short dark stromata, dry feel and natural variation were checked alongside labels, count per weight, breaks and foreign matter. No retired owner, journey, cash amount or transaction was included because none can authenticate Nagqu origin.
The gift was laid out without destroying its evidence
The closed box, seal, declared region and weight were photographed first. Representative specimens were then arranged on a dark clean background so rings, legs and junctions remained visible. The assessor sampled several areas of the box to reveal mixed sizes or concealed breaks.
Intact bodies were not snapped. Existing fragments could show a pale interior and fine darker line. Loose stromata, body pieces, soil and packaging debris were kept in separate groups so the condition record and scale reading remained clear.
Nagqu was treated as an origin claim
A full warm-gold body and relatively short, naturally graded stroma can fit Nagqu trade descriptions. The central four leg pairs should be especially visible within the eight pairs. These traits overlap with other authentic high-altitude origins, so a place name also requires coherent producer and custody evidence.
A strong mushroom-like or animal note is not mandatory and cannot prove origin. Chemical, sulphur-like or musty odour is adverse. Glue seams, inserted sticks, wire and factory-like repeated rings contradict a natural specimen regardless of the box's printed prestige.
Transparent weighing followed sorting
The scale was zeroed, the unit stated and packaging excluded. Count per dry weight described average specimen size only after authenticity and condition were supported. Broken but clean material was not silently discarded, while foreign additions were not counted as cordyceps.
Kam Hoi Shing could conclude that the lot was consistent, mixed or uncertain and explain its present appraisal factors. The Kowloon location made direct inspection convenient but did not add grade. Traditional use does not establish medical efficacy, and an attractive gift does not set a universal market result. The anonymous method remains useful because every observation can be repeated by another reviewer.
Gift-box symmetry was checked against a second layer. Large intact bodies can be pinned or arranged above smaller fragments, and red or gold backing may alter apparent colour. The assessor retained the original layout photograph, then recorded every sampled position before regrouping by condition. If the printed regional statement differed between sleeve and inner label, that discrepancy stayed in the report rather than being resolved through the donor's recollection. Any retaining pins were isolated and excluded from weight.
