The bahaba fish, also known as money maw fish, is a species endemic to China. It prefers to live in waters where saltwater and freshwater meet. Historically, its main habitats were along the coast of Guangdong and in the fishing grounds of southern Fujian, as well as islands like Nanao Island at the confluence of the East and South China Seas.
This fish usually hides in deep-sea caves all year round and does not take bait. Coupled with its rarity, it is normally very difficult to catch.
